Slow Food Projects and Programs: Slow Food Utah in Schools
Slow Food in Schools is a garden–to–table program for children that cultivates the senses and teaches an ecological approach to food. The objective is to awaken children to the enjoyment and health benefits of quality foods and the principles of land stewardship.
Slow Food in Schools strives to make connections between the food we eat and where it comes from. Opening eyes to new possibilities. A growing program joining over 20 garden–to–table programs across the United States, Slow Food in Schools helps children develop an appreciation for real, wholesome food and an understanding of sustainable food practices.
Connecting young people with their food is the most important step we can take to ensure a future full of good, clean, and fair food. Slow Food nurtures this future through our Slow Food in Schools program. Slow Food USA works with Slow Food chapters across the country on Garden to Table projects that provide meaningful, hands-on food experiences and education to K-12 students.
Slow Food Utah has partnered with Harmons Grocery to form the "Teach to Taste" program.
Slow Food Utah Leader, Christi Paulson, received the 2010 Agriculture in the Classroom "Excellence in Teaching About Agriculture" Award in April, 2010. The work Christi and several Slow Food Utah volunteers do in the “Slow Food Utah in Schools” program is derived from her classroom practices for which she received this award.
