Community Meeting at the Chase Mill – Tracy Aviary
Good Day Community,
Please join us June 9th at the Chase Mill in the Tracy Aviary to learn more about Wasatch Cooperative Market and to become a part of bringing this grassroots grocery to Salt Lake City!
The Aviary has generously offered this location for Wasatch Cooperative Market to host this event. We realize it’s short notice but we need to seize the opportunity. There'll be refreshments, a presentation about the Co-op, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions. You'll also have the chance to become a Founding Member-Owner so bring your checkbook (which you'll need for the payment plan option as well).
Our email list is strong with more than 750 subscribers. While the amount of interest is compelling, without your capital investment, there will not be a co-op. In order to progress beyond the organizing stage, we need to have 500 Member-Owners. If you are already solidly behind this effort and want to shop at Wasatch Cooperative Market as soon as possible, we need you now. Come meet with us so we can address any questions or concerns you may have; your comments and suggestions are encouraged.
It’s also a good opportunity to talk about the logo contest if you have any questions about it.

Follow up from Live Green Festival
Wasatch Cooperative Market Community!
We had a successful day at the Live Green Festival at the beginning of this month. We had non-stop traffic and gained additional Founding Member-Owners. Thanks to everyone who came to see us to get more familiar with what’s coming to the Salt Lake Valley and to sign up!
We’d also like to thank Happy Monkey Hummus, Beehive Cheese Company, and Hansen Hives for their support. People who stopped to talk with us got to sample the great products from these local companies.
Be on the lookout for announcements concerning:
- A community meeting we are planning for June. This will be another opportunity for you to learn more about the Co-op and to sign up as a Founding Member-Owner. This is a grass roots business that grows through your investment.
- The logo contest kickoff June 1st.

- $50 per month for 6 months
- $75 per month for 4 months
- $100 per month for 3 months
Upon completion of the application and direct payment authorization form, these amounts will be automatically withdrawn from your account on the 1st or 3rd Thursday of each month until paid in full. Hello Community!
The Wasatch Cooperative Market has stepped up on the web! We have now officially moved to a .coop domain name - www.wasatch.coop - and we've completed some important website updates.
When you visit the Co-op's website you can now:
- check out a video that provides a better understanding of what we are bringing to the Salt Lake Valley. When you become a Founding Member-Owner you become a part of this!
- tell friends about the Co-op and Invite them to join the Co-op's email list and become Founding Member-Owners! Growing our numbers equals growing the Co-op.
- view a timeline of the Co-op's development activities to date and Member-Owner goals. The faster Founding Member-Owner numbers grow the sooner we will open doors!
- peruse our Resources page where you can get information about consumer-owned cooperatives and see some examples of other start-up and other established Co-ops. We're not alone out there!
Be on the lookout for more frequent updates in the coming months. We intend to hold several Member-Owner drive community events and to have a presence at festivals and farmer's markets.

Dear Community,
A big THANKS to all those who were able to attend our Member-Owner Drive Kickoff Meeting! It was a huge success and it feels great to be off and running! Thanks to each of you and the support you've shown. Even more exciting—we now have our first group of founding member-owners!
Based on the barrage of emails we received on kickoff day, we know many of you weren't able to make the meeting, but still want to be involved. So, to fill you in, on Wednesday we were happy to share that all the mechanisms are in place for you to become a founding member-owner and for us to get this co-op off the ground! A Member-Owner Class A Unit costs $300.00; that investment will go immediately into our startup reserve and will help us to reach the next phase, including location search, feasibility study, and most importantly, marketing and outreach. Also, keep an eye on the website for upcoming member-owner drives and opportunities to help us in our recruiting efforts. Lastly, we have posted our newly adopted Bylaws on the website at www.wasatchcoop.com/bylaws.

Update September 18, 2009
Hello Community,
We have two big announcements!
We are officially incorporated as Wasatch Cooperative Market, LCA! This is a significant milestone in the development of the cooperative because it allows us to kick-off the initial ownership drive.
To do this we have solidified a date and location for the next community meeting--Wednesday, October 7th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm (doors open at 5:30 pm, presentation starts at 6:00 pm) at The State Room, 638 South State Street.
There will be more details to follow concerning the community meeting. In the meantime put it on your calendar and tell your friends! We intend to have more media exposure in the lead up to the meeting as well, so be on the lookout for more stories about the cooperative.
