Slow NewsJune 2009
It is getting to be that time of year when we get to savor the bounty of our community.  Lots of farmer’s markets will be opening in June, including Downtown Salt Lake City’s on the 13th. When traveling around the state this summer why not check out local restaurants or farmer’s market? You can check out a listing by region in Utah on our web site.

Locally, we were lucky to have two new restaurants open in Salt Lake this month, Pago and Tipica.  Both embrace the farm to table concept, using as many local products as possible.  I have eaten at both and the food is very delicious.  Help support our local growers and our local restaurants.

Here's to happy and slow eating.

More information is available online at Copper Moose Farm.

Slow Food Blog
Online at Slow Food Utah, we have a blog that anyone can post too. We love to hear about what people are trying at home and in their community to live slowly. We especially are looking for comments from those who have received ARK seeds. A blog on the topic has already been started.

Slow Food in Schools
Another successful school year has come to a close, but students will still be gardening and creating culinary memories at Riley Elementary this summer. This past year the students have gain much knowledge, tasted several new foods and had fun with the monthly after-school tasting and cooking classes. This summer Slow Food Utah will continue to work with students in the school garden and cooking from the bounty that will be coming soon. Summer volunteer needs to keep the program running are listed in the volunteer section.

Marguerite Henderson,
cookbook author/teacher
Marguerite Marceau Henderson's career in the food business began in
1980, teaching  Italian and French (her heritage) cooking classes in Salt Lake at a local cookware shop.

It gradually grew into a successful catering business in the early
1980's, then back to teaching again, and then opening 2 local restaurants (one in Park City, and the award winning Cucina in the Avenues). She has written 3 cookbooks and is presently under contract for a fourth with Gibbs Smith Publishing titled "Small Sweet Indulgences". She continues to teach  cooking classes around the state, writes a food blog, and travels to keep up with food trends around the country.  She teaches for private groups, her regular students, and creates various wine/food pairing classes with specific themes.  Her Saturday on the patio classes, "Fresh From the Farmer's Market" are delightful with surprise meals cooked with fresh ingredients from local vendors.
