    The Lau Family will NOT be going to Caputo’s in Salt Lake city on April 21 to ensure they can hurry home to help with the livestock if needed. They WILL most likely be delivering to SLC again on May 12th or 19th. (Slow Food Utah will post this as soon as we hear from the Lau Family.) The Lau Family thanks you for your understanding during this busy time of year.

    There is also a slight chance that the Lau Family will have to cancel the April 21st delivery trip if the weather is poor and John needs help with the lambs and calves. In the life of a family farmer some things are beyond their control, like how many ewes decide to lamb in a snow storm (10 lb newborn twin lambs don’t survive well in very cold weather with out shelter). Slow Food Utah will post word on this if we hear they they have decided not to make the trip from Southern Idaho...Check here Saturday morning for an update.

    Message from Lau Family Farm: (April 16, 2007)

    "If you would like specific items please contact us and we will bring those cuts for you. We will have jerky and summer suasage available on April 21.

    If you are considering getting a whole or half lamb this spring, we need to know ASAP. We are currently planning to offer quarter, half and whole beeves all spring, and possibly all summer. We do have a paper wrapped quarter beef that will be ready for delivery in April or May.

    Lau Family Farm has been accepted into the Idaho Falls Farmers Market! We plan to attend this market on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. In order to do this, we will not be at the Cache Valley Growers Market on the 1st Saturday of each month. We will have the schedule posted at our website. We want to make sure you know when to expect us at the market and when not to. We appreciate your bearing with us as we try to grow our business. Our Logan customers can also find our beef at Sweet Peas Natural Market in downtown Logan. We will likely be delivering to our Ogden and Salt Lake customers on the second Saturday of each month.

    We are looking forward to picking up our roving and yarn made from our wool next month. We should have a nice variety of colors to choose from. We will have natural white and natural oatmeal yarn. We will also have natural white roving, natural dark brown roving, and a variegated white and brown roving (from a somewhat spotted sheep). We also have a limited amount of raw wool fleeces from two dark brown fleeces available. We are continuing to look into having wool blankets made, but due to the huge amount of homework to be done we wont even try that until after we shear again next year. If it looks doable, we hope to have information available, and accept pre-orders next winter.

    We have a handful of calves on the ground now, and are a week out from the ewes due date. The animals think they are poorly done to because we are still feeding them hay (when they would love to be grazing the tender shoots of the pasture). We are confining them to small portions of the pasture, so as to allow the pasture to get a good start. Another week or so and it should be time to start rotating them thru the pastures.
