The City Library, Main Auditorium.
210 East 400 South, Salt Lake City.
Thursday, January 17, 2008 - Free - 7:00 p.m.

"When Deserts and Mountains Collide" is an exploration of snow in the West and how changes in the climate will impact our snowfall and economy. Painter recently joined the University of Utah as assistant professor of geography. He was formally a research scientist for the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado.

Presented by Slow Food Utah in conjunction with Utah Museum of Natural History as part of "The Nature of Things - Exploring our Place in a Changing World 2008."

"The Nature of Things - 2008 brings together experts from a variety of fields to explore different aspects of our changing world. Each lecture and event invites you to consider "the nature" of change and your place within it as we ponder the future of our planet."

"No matter where we look, our world is changing around us. From the food we eat to the way we use our land, from the snow on our mountains to the ice at the Poles, nature is in flux."

"We as humans both react to and help create those changes."
