What a poignant story. I can envision and feel what it must be like to be a farmer, an organic farmer, who loves the land so much that he is able to survive the ups and downs of the seasons, the markets, the food industries, and the consumer. You sense how deeply he cares about the history of his Japanese American upbringing, his love and respect of his father, the companionship of his wife, and being a good provider to his family. The land and Mother Nature are two finicky mistresses that I would never want to deal with. I’d probably have better odds playing the roulette table in Vegas than dealing with those two mistresses. I do admire his courage and tenacity.
I absolutely love peaches, and in humble opinion, you can’t help but love a farmer who grows the most scrumptious peaches in the world. I rate the book 8.5 out of a possible 10. Only downside is I found it a little slow in places and was skimming several pages at a time instead of reading the paragraphs word for word.
